TWO exhibitions are being hosted at the Inspired by…gallery, Danby, until Tuesday.

The first, Exploring the Boundaries, sees members of the Ebor Group take inspiration from the natural environment, found objects and derelict spaces. Using a broad range of materials the works combine colour, texture and form to capture the special qualities of the North York Moors.

The Ebor group was formed in 1996, under the initial guidance of mentor Hilary Bower, a renowned international textile artist. The group consists of nine members, who all live and work in North Yorkshire. The artists use a broad range of techniques from paper, paints, dyes, fabric, threads, wax, metal and wood.

Members of the group retain their individual styles, but benefit from the shared experience of working towards an exhibition. They work to a theme – researching and gathering ideas for the chosen topic, then using appropriate mediums or processes to convey ideas and emotions.

The second artist, Sue Morton has an array of landscape paintings celebrating the unique character and ever-changing moods of North Yorkshire’s villages, moors and coastal scenery coming under the heading of Pure Light, Bright Water. Sue’s work is enhanced by the clarity of the air and beautiful, but ephemeral light effects.

Sue Morton lives and works in the Whitby area. Trained in the arts, Sue has worked in the museum arts sector, and ran an historic house museum. She later became associate and then principal of an historic building consultancy.

Sue paints in oils, watercolour and acrylics. For more about Sue and her work, see suemorton.co.uk

The inspired by…gallery is at The Moors National Park Centre, Danby, which is open daily in October, from 10am to 5pm with free entry.
