EAST Yorkshire Open Studios is a diverse annual showcase of the region’s best talent in the visual arts.

Fifty-eight artists, galleries and art groups will open their doors to visitors over two weekends, offering an insight into their working practices and an impressive, affordable variety of work for sale or commission.

Local art and craft can be enjoyed in the environment in which it is made, and curiosity is encouraged.

Now in its fourth year, Open Studios is being organised and promoted by a team consisting of textile artist and curator Corinne Young and her daughter Rebecca, a writer and arts organiser.

As in previous years the event is deliberately non-selective and inclusive. This allows all kinds of artists within the East Yorkshire area to participate and display work in traditional painting, print, photography, sculpture, ceramics, glass, textiles, precious metals and more.

Open Studios is a fun, friendly experience and excellent opportunity to explore the beautiful East Yorkshire area which continues to inspire its artists and makers.

Artists taking part include Mo Burrows, who has a newly-created exhibition space at her studio in Wilberfoss.

Mo’s unique contemporary jewellery encompasses a number of different techniques and is influenced by colour, texture and shape.

“I work with kiln-fired precious metal clays, crystals, semi-precious stones, beads, wirework and acrylics,” said Mo. “Having recently produced chunky and bold pieces, my latest collection is fine and delicate.”

Also in Wilberfoss is Carol Wainwright, who makes glazed textural ceramics, which in turn inspire a collection of quilted textiles.

Carol said: “I love pattern, and above all colour. I enjoy the process of making by hand. With ceramics it is the wheel and the brushing of glaze. With quilts it is the meditative process of hand stitching and arranging shape and colour.”

An East Yorkshire Open Studios brochure has been produced to make the visitor's experience easier and more enjoyable. The brochure features eye catching artwork in a variety of media as well as area maps and clear directions to each studio, and is available from art galleries and tourist outlets within the area.

East Yorkshire Open Studios takes place on October 10 and 11 and October 17 and 18, from 10am to 5pm.
