DYNAMIC "gypsy folk and roll" band Holy Moly and the Crackers top the bill at this year’s exciting ParkFest at the North York Moors National Park Centre, in Danby.

Influenced by an eclectic range of musicians from American folk hero Woody Guthrie to gypsy punks Gogol Bordello, Holy Moly & the Crackers play a lively, moonshine mix of Romani, Americana and contemporary British folk-rock.

They will kick off this year’s ParkFest weekend with an outdoor gig at the centre on the evening of Saturday, July 25.

Sunday brings the traditional family fun day, with something for everyone from food, crafts and National Park projects to family activities, including:

l Arts and crafts: coastal crafts, foraging and ancient paint palettes from Real Staithes, printing from nature with artist Stef Mitchell, pottery demonstrations from Andrea Cundell, driftwood art from Jean Hall and traditional textiles with Cleveland Fibre Arts. Plus: face-painting, soap, badge and mask-making;

l Food: learn all about bees and honey with Whitby and District Beekeepers’ Association, pasta-making sessions with Arches Cookery School, NFU’s have a go at milking a cow, orchard produce from Tree Top Press, fruit liqueurs from SLOEmotion and local food from the centre’s shop;

l An active landscape: East Barnby mini-bike skills trail, Hardmoors extreme events, Yorkshire Bushcraft; have a go archery and geocaching;

l Wildlife and conservation: award-winning photographer Steve Race from Yorkshire Coast Nature, The British Falconers’ Club, Hawk and Owl Trust, meet the National Park’s rangers and volunteers, the moorland stewardship scheme, Askham Bryan College and sheep shearing;

l History and heritage: North York Moors National Park’s This Exploited Land project, Ryedale Folk Museum and Danelaw Living History Group.

The family fun day takes place from 11am to 4pm. Entry is free; certain activities may incur a small charge. All children to be accompanied by an adult. The venue is wheelchair-accessible.
