RIEVAULX Terrace will be enhanced this summer with sculptures on display from some of North Yorkshire's best artists.

Temple Treasures: Art at Rievaulx will display 17 works by eight sculptors.

Some will be displayed along the woodland path while others will be displayed on the grassy terrace, sharing the prominence with the views of the nearby Rievaulx Abbey.

James Etherington, visitor experience manager at Rievaulx Terrace, said: “I was blown away by the quality of the entries for this exhibition.

"Yorkshire has some really talented artists and it will be a pleasure to see their work displayed among the natural beauty of the landscape.

"We have had outdoor sculpture exhibitions at Rievaulx before and they have always proved popular with our visitors, adding another layer to discover at this property that is rightly called a hidden gem.”

A wide variety of sculptures will be on display with animals, nature and wonder being the predominant themes. A wooden doorway opens on a painted tree-lined walk, stone-carved lovers sit amidst vines and leaves and upcycled metal is shaped into a heron poised for flight.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a small guidebook and all the artworks displayed are on sale. Ten per cent from all sales will go towards supporting the charitable work of the National Trust in conserving the landscape and history of Rievaulx Terrace for generations to come.

The exhibition will run until the end of the season on Sunday, November 1.

Rievaulx Terrace is open Monday to Sunday, from 11am to 5pm. For more information, phone 01439 798340 or visit nationaltrust.org.uk/rievaulx
