HELMSLEY Arts Centre is offering plenty of creative fun during the summer holidays.

A two-day performance workshop for seven to 11 year olds on Tuesday, July 21 and Wednesday, July 22, has the theme of Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes, and is led by leading director Helena Fox, who has worked at many of the UK's most prestigious theatres, including the National Theatre.

The workshop will explore physical theatre and many of Dahl's larger-than-life characters to create a dynamic and entertaining performance to share with family and friends at the end of the day on the Wednesday.

Children need to bring a packed lunch. Early booking is advised as tickets are selling fast. The event runs from 10am to 3.30pm each day and costs £35 for both days, or £30 for 1812 Youth Theatre or 1812 Tykes.

For 12 to 17 year olds, Helmsley Arts Centre welcomes back dynamic young director/choreographer Jolley Gosnold to lead a Musical Theatre Summer School, which runs from Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31, from 10am to 3.30pm.

This will be an inspiring five days of theatre, music, movement and devising, where young people can develop their musical theatre skills including acting through song, character work, dance and stagecraft.

Using well-known songs, participants will create a new piece of modern musical theatre and perform the piece for friends and family at the end of the week. Dance experience is not necessary, but experienced dancers are welcome.

The workshop costs £90 or £80 for 1812 Youth Theatre Members for the full five days.
