EAST Yorkshire’s first and only Michelin-starred restaurant has teamed up with a Cottingham gallery to offer an evening of fine food and art featuring the popular Impossimals.

Tomorrow (Thursday), The Pipe and Glass Inn, at South Dalton, near Beverley, is the venue for The Secret Pantry – an evening with artist Peter Smith, whose enchanting “Impossimals” will soon become international TV stars.

The rotund striped creatures, created by the Nottinghamshire-born artist, have been snapped up by LA-based Suppertime Entertainment and animation partners Spider-Eye, who plan to bring them to an even wider audience with their own highly-anticipated worldwide animated series. The Impossimals are exclusively published by Washington Green Fine Art.

Hosted by the award-winning Artmarket gallery, Cottingham, which works in partnership with Washington Green, the evening will start with drinks, canapés, and a private viewing of Peter’s art.

He is currently working on a specially-commissioned painting inspired by The Pipe and Glass Inn, which will be unveiled on the night. The original will be on show, as well as a small number of highly-collectable boutique limited edition giclée prints uniquely-signed by both Peter Smith and the inn’s chef/owner, James Mackenzie.

James has created a menu for the evening based around the titles of some of Peter’s paintings. A starter of slow-cooked pork belly with South Dalton salami and Waldorf salad, with a Yorkshire cider reduction, revels in the title of Rumblng Tumbly Treat, followed by Nettling Pester Pot – a little cup of scampi soup with garden nettle pesto.

Diners will then enjoy a main course of Rumplingly Flavoursome Fine Fresh Fare with a Dash of Flamboyant Springtime Flair – rump of lamb with confit lamb belly, boulangère potatoes, Yorkshire asparagus, pickled red onion, Bleasdale Bewety sheep’s cheese salad and salsa verde.

The meal will be rounded off with a pudding of white chocolate and raspberry delice with raspberry sorbet (Scrumdiddly Delight) and Drinkydips – coffee and doughnuts.

Throughout the evening there will be talks from Peter and James, a live sketching competition directed by Peter and a charity auction of some rare maquette sculptures that Peter created before painting the Pipe and Glass-inspired piece.

James said: “We’re delighted to team up with the Artmarket gallery to offer this unique evening and can’t wait to see the artwork that Peter has created inspired by The Pipe and Glass Inn.”

Places cost £65 (drinks not included), and any special dietary requirements can be accommodated – please advise at time of booking.
