MORE than 60 singers from two well-known choirs will join forces this month for a concert in Malton.

It will be the first time that Malton District Male Voice Choir and Staxton Singers have sung together in the town.

However, last year they both joined five other regional choirs in Scarborough for a National Association of Choirs concert that raised more than £2,600 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Malton choir chairman Tom Todd said the two choirs had agreed to meet and sing together again.

On Saturday, April 25, the Malton choir hosts the singers from Staxton at Malton Methodist Church in Saville Street. The tables are turned on June 20 when the Staxton group plays host to the Malton singers in Burniston, near Scarborough. The Malton concert includes joint performances of Autumn Leaves, Gwahoddiad and With a Voice of Singing.

Staxton Singers are a mixed choir under musical director Stan Kell and mark their 30th anniversary this year. They sing mainly in the Scarborough area and their repertoire ranges ‘from The Beatles to Bach’. Malton District Male Voice Choir, under MD Vivien Wilcock, goes into its ninth year in autumn.

The Malton concert starts at 7.30pm. Entry is £7 at the door and includes light interval refreshments.
