RYEDALE Festival will be reaching to a younger audience in its 2015 programme, kicking off with tomorrow’s launch concert at St Peter’s Church, Norton, Malton.

Tickets are only £1 for under 25s, one of several initiatives the festival will be undertaking this year.

The chamber musicians of Endymion will open their 7.30pm programme with Beethoven’s Spring Sonata for violin and piano, followed by Brahms's Trio for clarinet, cello and piano, a work he composed when drawn out of retirement after hearing the inspirational playing of a talented clarinettist.

The launch concert will end with a rare performance of a sextet by Dohnányi: a hint at the Austro-Hungarian theme that will run throughout the July festival. Written for the unusual combination of clarinet, horn, string trio and piano, it is described by the festival’s director, pianist Christopher Glynn, as "a fabulous piece, big boned, full of great tunes, instrumental colour, dramatic contrasts and lots of humour".

"Endymion convey a real sense of joy and energy in their music and I know they will get our 2015 festival off to a fantastic start," said Christopher.

"I hope lots of under 25s will take advantage of the special offer of £1 tickets and watch this space for more offers like this as we build up to the main festival."

After Endymion’s performance, the full programme of concerts, talks, workshops, the festival opera and other events from July 17 to August 2 will be revealed.
