The original Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell will play at this year’s Parklands Festival at Duncombe Park, Helmsley.
“He is undoubtedly one of the UK’s finest songwriting talents and accomplished live performers,” said the festival’s music programme manager, Rodney Wright. “We really enjoyed a fabulous performance by the rest of The Stranglers back in 2013, but Hugh’s presence was sorely missed. We’re delighted to finally have him to head up our programme.”
While with The Stranglers Hugh enjoyed success with 10 hit albums and 21 top 40 singles.
Cornwell’s latest studio album Totem and Taboo was released to rave reviews. Recorded at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, the album was engineered and mixed by the legendary Steve Albini. “He sounds more engaged and intense than he has in years,” said Classic Rock magazine.
Hugh will perform an acoustic set at Parklands, combining songs from his fabulous solo catalogue with versions of Stranglers classics. He will play on the Saturday evening on the Black Howl stage.
Parklands Festival will run over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Go to parklands.events
