SINGER, songwriter and Celtic harper Sarah Dean returns to the Inspired by… gallery at Danby this weekend.

Nicknamed “the Incredible String Blonde”, Sarah will play at the gallery at The Moors National Park Centre at Danby on Saturday.

The North Yorkshire-based singer, songwriter and composer has been delighting audiences for years with her 29-stringed Stoney End Celtic harp.

She has played at venues worldwide and supported artists, including folk musicians Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson and Lindisfarne, both solo and with her three-piece vocal acapella group, Soundsphere.

Most recently Sarah travelled to Tanzania for a teaching trip and has recorded and toured with Swansea-based experimental acoustic duo Luna Rossa.

She said: “I share my inspiration for my songs and music with the artists who exhibit at Danby – the landscapes and rolling moorlands, the big skies and seascapes.

“All are interpreted on the beautiful Celtic harp, creating atmospheric and mesmeric ‘soundscapes’.”

Children and adults are encouraged afterwards to have a play and ask questions about the harp.

Sarah will give two performances on Saturday, at noon and 2pm; each will last about 45 minutes. Admission is £2.50, and advance booking is recommended on 01439 772737 or moorscentre@northyorkmoors.org.uk

Music-lovers will also be able to grab a last-minute viewing of the exhibition Of Our Place, which closes on March 16.

Featuring traditional and contemporary works depicting moorland and coastal scenes in the North York Moors National Park by the Viridian art group – Pamela Scott, Ian Nicholas and Anthony Cox – it can be seen at the Inspired by… gallery daily from 10.30am to 4pm. Entry is free.
