THE Russian State Ballet and Opera House is returning to Scarborough Spa later this year.
La Traviata will be performed in The Grand Hall on Tuesday, September 15.
The three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi, set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, is a love story shrouded in sacrifice and misunderstanding.
A masterpiece in its own right, it contains some of Verdi’s most beautiful and memorable music.
A tragic and resonant tale of society and morality, La Traviata combines compelling characters with hugely powerful, moving and instantly recognisable melodies, making it still, 160 years after its 1853 debut, one of the most emotionally engaging and popular operas of all time.
Jo Ager, the Spa’s general manager, said: “Both us as a venue and the opera’s producer were extremely pleased with how Rigoletto went, it was some spectacle and we look forward to welcoming opera fans new and old to witness La Traviata in September.”
Tickets for La Traviata at Scarborough Spa are £27.50 and are available from scarboroughspa.co.uk or phone 01723 821888.
