WILDLIFE is the theme of February’s half-term events at The Moors National Park Centre in Danby.

Children can give birds and bees a helping hand with a range of activities from making feeders and nest boxes to building a bee hotel.

Throughout the week there will also be a bird nesters trail around the centre’s grounds with a prize for those who can match the nest with the right bird.

On Tuesday, February 17, children can find out the difference between rabbits and hares on one of the four arts and crafts session, starting at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

The North York Moors’ birds are the focus on Wednesday, February 18. Make a bird feeder and nest box at 10.30am or create a nest and eggs from a variety of materials at 1.30pm.

At the splendid sunflowers event at 10.30am on Thursday, February 19, children can plant sunflower seeds in decorated pots and also make paper flowers to brighten their home until the sunflowers bloom.

At 1.30pm, there will be plenty of fascinating bee facts to be learnt and the chance to make a bee hotel and craft something out of beeswax.

Sally Ann Smith, events and exhibitions coordinator at the North York Moors National Park Authority, said: “Our half-term events are primarily about having fun, getting stuck in with a range of different craft materials, but we do also weave in information about local wildlife to encourage children to get active and involved in the nature on their doorsteps.

“We also have beautiful exhibitions opening that week in our Inspired by… Gallery featuring paintings, ceramics, jewellery and poetry, so there’s something for the grown-ups too.”

All events, except the bird nesters trail, need to be booked. Phone 01439 772738 for more information and to book a place.
