THIS year at the Grand Opera House, in York, is promising to be an exciting year with a wide range of shows and productions.

The National Theatre’s multi award-winning production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is appearing in January, based on the award-winning novel by Mark Haddon.

From March 10 to 14, One Man Two Guvnors is Richard Bean’s side-splitting comedy, a unique laugh-out-loud mix of satire, songs, slapstick and glittering one-liners.

The Birmingham Royal Ballet will be appearing in May, along with Twelve Angry Men, a gripping courtroom thriller, hailed as the “classiest, most intelligent drama in the West End”.

Comedians Jimmy Carr, Paul Merton, Dave Spikey, Tim Vine and Ken Dodd will all be paying a visit to York.

There will also be shows for all the musical fans, such as Spamalot, with Todd Carty returning as Patsy. He will be joined by Joe Pasquale as King Arthur, direct from three years in the West End. Calamity Jane stars Jodie Prenger, while Anything Goes is a new production of Cole Porter’s classic, multi-award winning musical-comedy, it transports you to the magical age of tap dancing and high society.

Avenue Q will bring a host of fuzzy friends to York, from Tuesday, September 15 to Saturday, September 19. Featuring the naughtiest puppets in town, brought hilariously to life by an ensemble cast of 11 performers, this is a Tony Award-winning musical about growing up, dreaming big and finding your purpose in life. Finally, for something different – Derren Brown – who has become synonymous with the art of psychological manipulation will be appearing at the Grand Opera House in July.
