THE Stephen Joseph Theatre is launching its 60th anniversary by offering 600 tickets for 60p on Blue Monday, January 26.

The last Monday of January is so glumly called on account of being supposedly the most depressing day of the new year, but the Scarborough theatre has vowed to banish the blues and spread good cheer.

For one day only, the public can pick up 60p tickets for the diamond anniversary summer season. This will include the return of the SJT’s 2014 comedy musical Cox & Box – Mrs Bouncer’s Legacy before its national tour and a special anniversary production of the SJT-originated The Woman In Black, directed by original director Robin Herford, ahead of its West End transfer.

Sir Alan Ayckbourn will direct a revival of his 1974 play Confusions and his new work, Hero’s Welcome, and Neville’s Island will be revived at the theatre that gave Tim Firth’s comic drama its world premiere in 1992.

Sixty specially priced tickets are available for the first preview performance and opening night of the five plays on the following dates: Cox & Box – Mrs Bouncer’s Legacy, May 21 and 26; The Woman In Black, June 19 and 23; Confusions, July 9 and 14; Neville’s Island, August 6 and 11; Hero’s Welcome, September 4 and 8.

The sale runs from 10am to 6pm on Monday. A maximum of two 60p tickets per person will be on sale and must be booked in person from the SJT box office in Westborough.
