ONE OF Britain's favourite tenor's Alfie Boe will take centre stage at Scarborough Open Air Theatre next year as part of a spectacular Last Night of the Proms concert, organised to coincide with Armed Forces Day.
The concert, on Saturday June 27, will also feature the harmonious voices of the Military Wives Choir York, who will make a welcome return to the venue after their popular performance this summer.
To date, Alfie Boe has sold well over one million albums in the UK and has had four Top Ten albums. During his sell-out 2013 tour he played to over 80,000 fans, including two triumphant nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
The Scarborough audience will get to hear Alfie perform favourite classic tracks with his orchestra from all his albums, including Granada, God Give me Strength, Luna Malinconia (Blue Moon) and Nessun Dorma as well as Danny Boy, as performed in ITV’s hit period drama Mr Selfridge where he appeared as tenor Richard Chapman and the iconic Bring Him Home from Les Miserables.
Councillor David Chance, the Scarborough Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture said: “We don’t mind admitting that Alfie Boe has been on our wish list for some time, so we’re delighted that we’ve been able to secure him for next season.
"Alfie’s concerts sell out all over the country and I’m confident that the prospect of one of his stunning performances in the wonderful setting of the Open Air Theatre will make tickets a ‘must buy’ for many concert goers.”
