THE Kaboom website states it is one of the top ten fireworks displays in the UK, and after the fantastic show this year, it would be surprising if it didn’t keep that title.

Given the new location at Castle Howard, in much larger grounds than last year, big things were expected, especially as the drive from York was 45 minutes, rather than the five minutes to Clifton last year.

The longer journey was definitely worth it. The fireworks were spectacular in the picturesque setting in front of the lake surrounding the castle; without doubt it is one of the most impressive displays in the York district, with not only heart-haped fireworks but the biggest fireworks legal in Britain.

From fire eaters to fire poi spinning and fairground rides to a sparkler park, there was something to keep both kids and adults young at heart busy. The film Ghostbusters was shown on a large screen after the fireworks, but unfortunately was fighting against the rain so some people left, but there was still a good crowd who were determined not to be defeated.

The only disappointments were the queues for food and the toilets. However, with it being the first year that the display has moved to its new location, with a much larger crowd, it is something you could bypass as something to be improved next year.

You could tell that so much time and effort had been put into the event and people who attended definitely looked like they had enjoyed themselves. All in all it was a great night out and definitely worth the drive out to Castle Howard. Next year Kaboom is sure to be something to keep in the diary.
