TWO artists have joined forces for an exhibition full of colour this autumn at Ryedale Folk Museum’s art gallery

Unbridled Colour by Carol Coleman and Sandra Middleton is a celebration in textiles.

Both artist's pieces are created in fabrics and threads in their response to colour.

Carol takes images from the natural world. Using her camera and computer she creates unique imagery that is then stitched intensively with a sewing machine, to produce colourful and rich embroideries and tapestries.

Sandra works mainly in silk, dyeing her own fabrics to produce vibrant variegated colours. She uses a technique, she developed called ‘fractured colour’ to create bold and complex designs with great visual impact.

Carol said: “Our lives are enhanced by colour and our work reflects how colour can embrace and uplift us.

"Each piece in the exhibition has a unique mood. Visitors will be treated to works with enormous detail that stands close-scrutiny to reveal further depths of colour, texture and design.”

The collaboration of these York-based artists is an exhibition of wall-hung pieces, three-dimensional objects including textile jewellery, bowls, vessels and Giclee prints. There are also cards, postcards and covered books available for purchase.

Jennifer Smith, director at the museum, said: “This exhibition is one which embodies stunning craft work with a wealth of colour, sure to brighten anyone’s day.

"I am sure the visitors will appreciate Carol and Sandra’s intricate and exciting work.”

The exhibition can be seen at the art gallery at the Ryedale Folk Museum until Sunday, November 2. Admission to the gallery is free of charge.
