THE autumn season gets underway at Helmsley Arts Centre on Saturday when young classical pianist Clare Simmonds make a welcome return.

The evening will feature one of Beethoven’s most-loved sonatas, as well as music by Britten, Finch and Galvin, alongside some boogie-woogie and ligeti. On Tuesday, the Young Vic’s much-praised production of A Streetcar Named Desire will be screened at 7pm, starring Gillian Anderson as Blanche Dubois.

The renowned film and TV producer David Cobham gives a fascinating talk about birds of prey and why we neglect them at our peril on Friday, September 19.

His new book, A Sparrowhawk’s Lament, will be on sale and the evening will also feature its illustrator Bruce Pearson, who will showing images from the book.

One of the UK’s most exciting new theatre companies, Idle Motion, will be appearing on Saturday, September 20, with their play about Bletchley Park, That is All You Need to Know.

The centre’s artistic director Em Whitfield Brooks said: “This is the best new play I have seen in a long time, we were so lucky to be able to book this company.

“Their work is amazing, mixing live theatre with brilliant technology in a way that never detracts from this important story. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Bletchley Park, or in live theatre – or both.”
