A young Icelandic violinist will be the soloist at the next concert of the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra, playing the renowned Sibelius Violin Concerto.

Eva Thorarinsdottir is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music where she won numerous prizes for her solo performances.

She recently appeared as soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra before a sold-out audience at the London Barbican and performance reviews said she “stole the show”.

Eva said she was looking forward to performing the Sibelius in Scarborough.

“It is a hugely satisfying work to perform with orchestra,” she says. “It has so many beautiful moments and it is the sort of work which constantly requires you to experiment with different colours and expressions.”

Eva is now based in Manchester and has recently been appointed the Principal 2nd Violin of the Hallé Orchestra.

“I am enjoying it very much. I am proud to be part of such a brilliant orchestra,” she said.

The concert will also feature Glinka’s overture A life for the Tsar and Dvorak’s 7th Symphony.

It will be held at Scarborough’s Methodist Central Hall at 7.30pm on July 19.
