A PRIMA ballerina and a jazz legend join those bringing Matisse’s joyous cut-outs to life in this live cinema celebration of Tate’s blockbuster exhibition.

Audiences can share this very special evening broadcast live from 7.15pm on Tuesday, June 3 at Helmsley Arts Centre.

The film features an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition with Tate Director Nicholas Serota, and breathtaking new performances by Royal Ballet principal dancer Zanaida Yanowsky, and jazz musician Courtney Pine.

Fresh from his recent triumph as King Lear, one of Britain’s most loved actors Simon Russell Beale brings insight and emotion to the words of Matisse himself; whilst hugely popular actor Rupert Young, most recently seen on the BBC in The White Queen and Merlin, provides the film’s narration. This will be complemented by interviews with art experts, friends of the artist, and rare archive footage of Matisse at work.

Seventh Art Productions in partnership with Tate Media Productions will broadcast live in HD into around 240 participating UK cinemas.

Director Phil Grabsky said: “Matisse Live not only offers audiences who’ve not had the chance to come to London to see the exhibition for themselves the opportunity to experience this once-in-a –lifetime show, it also gives those who have seen the exhibition a wealth of additional insights, brand new creative responses to Matisse from leading UK performer,s and a chance to hear about Matisse’s art in his own words.
