RYEDALE artists are throwing open their studio doors this June as part of the North Yorkshire Open Studios.

This popular event is full of creative talent – with basket makers and blacksmiths, potters and painters, photographers and printmakers, stained glass makers and jewellery makers, all opening up their studios for free to showcase their talents, sell their artwork and share their passion.

Visit Malton and Norton studios to see paintings by Catriona Stewart, Rosi Robinson and Bridget Askew as well as photography by Nicola Taylor and textile creations by Serena Partridge

In Ampleforth, photographer Lucy Saggar’s monochrome work is inspired by her desire to capture the beauty of the landscape and rural life

And discover the work of a host of other Ryedale artists including Gillamoor based painter Andrea Bailey, Bridget Gillespie’s botanical paintings in Beadlam and Jim Wright’s land and seascape paintings at Kirkbymoorside.

Enjoy a fascinating and fun day out visiting studios hidden away in breathtaking locations - from barns, farms, and stables, to country cottages, period homes and suburban apartments.

Sculptor Jennifer Tetlow who will be opening up her Lastingham studio said: “One of the questions I am asked most about my work is - how do you get from this rough block from the quarry to the finished sculpture?2

" Open Studios is a perfect opportunity to see how it all happens. There will be work in progress and stage pictures of previous pieces being made, so you can see from the very beginning drawings, to the roughing out of shapes, through to fine detail carving and finishing - and ask me as many questions as you like."

All the studios are open across two weekends, June 7 and 8 June, and June 14 and15, from 10.30am to 5.30pm and visitors are welcome to drop in any time.
