THE Northern Potters Association is exhibiting at the Turnstone Gallery, in Sandsend, near Whitby, from Saturday.

Ceramics by 18 selected members will be available to buy at Harry Casson's gallery in East Row until Sunday, June 8.

Exhibition secretary Sylvia Holmes outlines the association's philosophy: "Our aim is to encourage and support artists in the production of sculptural, functional, fine art and decorative studio pottery in all its forms throughout the North of England," she says.

“We're a not-for-profit organisation, run by a committee of volunteers, and membership is open to anyone and everyone with an interest in ceramics. We now have more than 470 members, publish a bi-monthly newsletter and organise a mix of open and selected exhibitions, plus demonstrations and workshops, throughout the year."

On show at Sandsend will be work by Barbara Hayward; Barbara Wood; Charlotte Morrison; Colin Jowitt; Fiona Mazza; Eric Moss; Fiona Mazza; Jackie Needham; Ian Howie; Jackie Needham; Jenny Morten; Joan Hardie; John Scott; Lis Holt; Margaret Lawrenson; Michelle Freemantle; Penny Withers; Petra Lloyd; Tony Morris and Trudy Weir.

Turnstone Gallery is open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm; closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Admission is free.
