APRIL’S monthly food market in Malton will have Michelin-star appeal.

The second market of the year on Saturday, April 12, will be an entirely al-fresco affair with 35-plus stalls, while Jake Jones, from the nearby Talbot Hotel, will be demonstrating his talents in the outdoor cookery theatre.

Jake, who is sous-chef at the James Martins Restaurant at the hotel has worked at three of the North’s Michelin-starred restaurants - The Star, Harome; The Black Swan at Oldstead and the two-starred L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria.

He also recently qualified for the semi-final of the Academy of Culinary Art Award for Excellence.

Along with the stalls, street food and live music from Malton’s White Star Band, the Monthly Food Market also offers a free tea or coffee with every bakery purchase, free entry and free parking.

Market organiser, Tom Naylor-Leyland, said: “Last month’s Monthly Food Market was a busy one, and confirms the event is one of Yorkshire’s most renowned food markets with the freshest local produce. It is popular with all those who care about where their food is sourced and is loved by local foodies, chefs and keen amateur cooks.

“We look forward to seeing Jake in action. And we hope to announce some more special guests for our other forthcoming markets very soon.

The rest of the Malton Monthly Food Market dates are Saturday 14th June; Saturday 12th July; Saturday 9th August; Saturday 13th September; Saturday 11th October; Saturday 8th November and Saturday 13th December. The market will not be held in May due to the Food Lovers Festival being held in the town on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May.
