THE exhibition Naturally Inclined brings four local artists, sculptor Jennifer Tetlow, from Lastingham, photographers Janet and Richard Burdon of Pickering and Helmsley-based jeweller Louise Dwyer together for the first time.

All four are members of the local art group Ryedale Artworks who worked in association with The White Room Gallery in Bootham, York to run a series of exhibitions throughout 2014.

Though pieces in the exhibition by each artist are excitingly different, a common theme and interest brings them together - their creativity is inspired by the natural world. Local landscape, wildlife and flora feature strongly in the artwork for this collaboration.

Jennifer is a sculptor in stone who has a close bond and deep fascination for her material. She works by direct carving, creating sculpture with simple, clean lines and smooth surfaces. These elegant, nature inspired pieces seem to be simultaneously archaic and modern.

Her garden has influenced pieces being shown, from fresh spring growth, insects, pollinators, seeds and germination.

'It's flourishing abundance has excited carvings of swollen pods, invertebrate bodies and tender buds," she said.

Richard and Janet Burdon's work is a compilation of similar, but subtlely different styles of photography. A mixture of both colour and monochrome landscapes, plus a selection of creative images of the natural world express each photographer's artistic impression of their subject.

Louise feels hand made pieces of jewellery are special for each customer. It is invigorating to create something so personal for a customer and provide them with the opportunity for their design and special thoughts to be put into a piece of jewellery.

The exhibition preview is on Thursday, April 3 between 6 and 9 pm at the White Room Gallery, Priestley's at No. 36, Bootham, York and the exhibition runs until April 30. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10 am - 5.30 pm, Sunday 11 am - 4 pm.
