MORE than 200 singers from across North and East Yorkshire will raise their voices in a multi-choir charity concert in Scarborough in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Singers from seven choirs will take part in the show, in Westborough Methodist Church, organised by the national Association of Choirs (NAC) as a Grand Finale to its 2014 Conference in the town April 4-6.

The choirs involved are Malton District Male Voice Choir, Staxton Singers, Harrogate based Cadenza Singers, Beverley Male Voice Choir, Hull Male Voice Choir, Hull Ladies Choir and North Ferriby Ladies Choir.

In what promise to be spectacular highlight performances, the more than 200 voices in all seven choirs will open the show with Martin Shaw’s “With a Voice of Singing” and close it with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from the Messiah – both conducted by Staxton Singers Musical Director Stan Kell.

Malton Male Voice Choir Chairman Tom Todd, whose group is fielding about 25 singers, said the concert, organised by NAC Co-ordinator Terry Wallis and choir representatives, was “a rare and unique organisational achievement”.

"It is also the first time the young Malton choir had taken part in such an event," he added.

"The choir was founded only seven years ago but has performed widely since then helping raising thousands of pounds for local good causes.£

As well as the opening and closing numbers involving all teh singers, each choir will sing three songs at the Scarborough concert. In additional all the male voice choirs will join to sing the Welsh hymn “Gwahoddiad” while the ladies’ choirs will combine for “Hail Holy Queen” from the musical ‘Sister Act’.

Tickets for the Scarborough concert, costing £8, are available from Scarborough Music Centre on 01723 373757, Scarborough information offices and Westborough Methodist Church on 01723 506926.
