DISCOVER a feast of creative talent at the 2014 York Open Studios this April. With open across two weekends this is a great chance to visit over 70 working artists and see the quality of artwork that is being created in York: sculpture, printmaking, painting, traditional crafts, illustration, textiles and ceramics.

Most of the studios, located in spaces ranging from living rooms to garages and gardens, can be reached on foot or bicycle, so visitors can enjoy a couple of days wandering around the historic streets of York in search of studios, with the help of the free event guide.

There’s something to tempt everyone this year, with many of the artists offering additional activities at their open studios, from taster workshops and demonstrations to afternoon tea & cake.

- The event is treasure trove for lovers of ceramics and this year features internationally respected ceramicists Ruth King, Loretta Braganza and Isa Denyer.

- Glam up your china cabinet with a visit to Jack D March, a young potter who is bringing glamour to ceramics!

- Meet artists who are passionate about keeping traditional craft skills alive, including willow weaver Heather Dawes and stained glass expert Ann Sotheran

- Tale a peek behind the doors of buildings which are being converted into creative spaces such as Rogues Atelier, a former tannery, which now houses the work of Penny Phillips and Jo Walton

- From established artists such as Mark Hearld and Emily Sutton, whose artwork is displayed alongside the ephemera of objects they have been inspired by, to emerging artists including York College students this event is a great chance to support the arts.

Chair of the event, Anne Hutchison, said: “We have more artists taking part in the event this year with many new faces. This is a great opportunity to see art, buy art and meet artists on their own territory, and perhaps even be inspired to have a go yourself!”
