THE Beer Town Festival was a great success last weekend and must surely mark Malton as a place where quality beer is brewed by Bad Seed Brewery and Brass Castle Brewery.

Brewing is another string to Malton’s bow and another one to add to Made in Malton’s food armoury.

I did the sound, as mentioned last week, and the Lumberjack Cowboys Heartbreak Trucking Company were brilliant, unique, bouncing and brash. They were led by Billy-Bob, with Sammy- Joe, Dianne, Neet and Mary- Lou. They were irreverent in their preaching, but did have a message to share in their own entertaining way. Really great fun. There were the Shiznits who played urban folk, and it was the first time I’ve had to mic up a dulcimer. The Swinton & District Excelsior Band also went down extremely well.

Now to films at the Palace Cinema – I can’t quite give up remembering that we are officially fantastic. So many people have told me they’ve seen the article in the Sunday Times and now it has been in the Gazette & Herald it really must be true that the Palace is a fabulous independent cinema.

Because of Beer Town we haven’t caught up with watching any films this week, apart from Non Stop (12A) – I can see why there is the split in those who like it and those who aren’t so bothered. We loved it as it had the tension from the start. Twists and turns to the plot and just for once a believable ending. Liam Neeson is brilliant in the part, as is Michelle Dockery. I loved the character of Jen Summers, played by Julianne Moore.

Non Stop has a skilfully puttogether script and a creditable outcome – well worth a watch in our opinion.

Yves Saint Laurent (15) joins our schedule from Friday. This is the story of the 21-year-old Yves Saint Laurent, who was catapulted to international stardom in 1957 as the successor to Christian Dior after his death. This is the story of the relationship with his partner and business partner that would change his life and the world of couture forever.

Grand Budapest Hotel (15) and Long Way Down (12A) are staying for another week.

Rio 2 (U) previews Saturday and Sunday only this weekend.

Muppets Most Wanted was in the previews last weekend and went down well with young and old. It is with us for two weeks over the holidays.

The Lego Movie stays with us for another weekend.

12 Years a Slave (15) and The Book Thief (12A) – will end on Thursday to make way for our new movies.

Stage productions

While the next encore for War Horse on Sunday is sold-out, we still have two seats left for the last show Elton John will be playing his Million Dollar Piano on Saturday. There are still some excellent seats available. If the concert is anything like as good as Caroline said, fans will be in for a real treat.

Tickets are selling well for the Andre Rieu concert on Saturday, July 19. We do also have an option of an encore the next day.

on the April 9, although they are in two different screens.

These are the last encores we are able to do as we have been limited by the National Theatre.

Peter Gabriel’s Back To Front Show was on Saturday.

I was at the Beer Town Festival so Caroline decided to watch it. She loved it and enjoyed all songs and guests.
