JOE CORNISH Galleries is hosting a solo exhibition by Yorkshire-based painter Ross Moore this month.

A full-time artist based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, Ross has developed his own unique style, inspired by Paul Klee and Henri Matisse. Not surprisingly given his influences, Ross loves to paint Mediterranean, as well as local scenes.

For his forthcoming exhibition at Joe Cornish Galleries, Ross has created a series of North Yorkshire and Dales townscapes and landscapes, which will be complemented in his exhibition by scenes of North Africa, Greece and Spain. Ross is also planning to include a selection of farm animal paintings – another favourite subject of his.

Ross’s paintings are vibrant, complex and colourful. “I try to find a balance between what I see and what I paint. I use mainly inks and dyes which give great depth of colour,” he said.

“My initial inspiration may be a landscape view, but once the first mark is made the painting becomes a balance between retaining some truth to the subject and pushing my image to new ground.”

Joni Essex, director of Joe Cornish Galleries, at Register House, Zetland Street, Northallerton, said she was excited to be hosting a solo exhibition by Ross.

“As well as being delightful and richly expressive, Ross’s images hit all the right buttons for us as his work concentrates on the diverse landscapes of Yorkshire, but move as far south as Africa,” she said.

“His exhibition is a fantastic precursor for our Africa Week at Joe Cornish Galleries in May.”

Local colour: paintings of Yorkshire and beyond by Ross Moore will be on display at Joe Cornish Galleries from Friday, April 4 to Wednesday, April 30.
