Bake-off to celebrate Queen's Diamond Jubilee in Pickering

Pickering residents are busy baking as part of the town’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

A bake-off is being held with finalists asked to make a Victoria Sponge which will be judged by guest judge Tom Parker-Bowles .

Sponsored by Feast and The White Swan Inn, the competition has three classes: under 11s, 11- 16 and over 16s.

The first heats have seen bakers compete with a traybake followed by a cheese scone. with the winners through to the final on Saturday, May 19.

Organiser Marian Buchanan said she wanted to do something community-orientated and added: “I felt it was a good local fun thing to do which everyone could get involved in.”

The winner of each class will win a Pickering Bake-Off Trophy, along with lunch at Feast for the under 16s and dinner for two at The White Swan Inn for those over 16.
