A DELI is asking customers and supporters for their help to win a prestigious award.

Hunters of Helmsley has been nominated for the second year in a row as Best Independent Retailer in the North of England in the Great British Food Awards. Last year it was highly-commended.

The awards, which are in their fourth year, celebrate the country’s finest home-grown ingredients, as well as those who produce and cook with them, and includes categories covering food writers, TV personalities, cookbooks, restaurants and retailers. Results will be announced in September, and celebrity judges include John Torode, Rachel Allen, Val Warner and Nathan Outlaw.

Christine Garnett, who owns Hunters of Helmsley with her husband Chris, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for a second year in these prestigious awards.

“We were over the moon to get a highly commended last year, especially when it’s such a tough category.

“It’s very telling that three of the five finalists for the North of England category are based in North Yorkshire – we have such a wonderful tradition of good food, we’re very lucky.

“If you have enjoyed our shop, we’d love it if you could spare two minutes to vote for us. It would just be the cherry on the cake if this year we can do one better than last.”

People can vote in the awards at greatbritishfoodmagazine.com/awards until July 17.

Voters will also be put into a prize draw to win one of 36 prizes, including hampers and kitchenware.

Hunters has been based on Helmsley’s picturesque Market Place for 27 years. Hunters previously received the accolade of being crowned Britain’s Best Small Shop, at an event held at the House of Commons. For more information visit www.huntersofhelmsley.com
