TWO bakers are doing their bit to bring something new, exciting and fresh to shoppers.

Jasmine Melville and Jackson Boston have opened The Local Loaf bakery in Scarborough market, selling handmade bread.

The pair specialise in baking hand-crafted, additive-free, fresh artisan bread using the best quality ingredients, including locally-grown and milled organic Yorkshire flour.

Their traditional breads include, farmhouse loafs, cobs, bloomers, batons and speciality breads. They will also be offering fresh pasties, teacakes, buns and scones.

Jack and Jasmine are passionate about using all natural ingredients, so their bread is free of any harmful chemicals and bursting with more nutrition and taste.

Jasmine said: “The Local Loaf Bakery keeps things simple and upholds the traditional time-honoured methods of baking bread.

“Real bread has depth of flavour and a chewy crust that you just wouldn’t find on a supermarket shelf. We hope that by highlighting our fresher, healthier and more nutritious approach, we can encourage people to take a step away from mass produced bread, towards The Local Loaf for bread made with care and passion.”

As well as selling bread and baked goods, Jack and Jasmine will also be offering locally-made preserves.

“We’re keen to promote some of the wonderful produce that Yorkshire has to offer on our stall," they said.

“Local is a big part of what we’re about, developing a strong presence in the community is very important to us. We love living in Scarborough and feel that this way of business will truly support and strengthen our hometown.”

Their arrival comes as the market prepares for a big transformation.

Scarborough Borough Council and the University of Hull are working together to redevelop the market, following a £2.7m grant from the Coastal Communities Fund, administered by the Big Lottery Fund.

The market will get a complete makeover, during which a new mezzanine floor will be added, to create space for new shops, offices and a café.
