MALTON’S first monthly food market of the year has been hailed a success.

New stallholders, including The Really Nice Food Company, Tarte and Berry, Smokin Blues street food and Quackers Cantonese, joined many returning favourites to show local food at its best.

Lucy Batham, of Tarte and Berry, in York, said: “It was our first time trading at Malton Monthly Market and we really enjoyed it.

“It was great to chat to local foodies about our bakes and treats.”

As well as food and drink producers and live music, MasterChef’s Saira Hamilton took part in three live cookery demos.

Tom Naylor-Leyland, director of the market, said: “We are delighted that Malton Monthly Food Market attracted new stall holders to Yorkshire’s Food Capital.

“It was fantastic to see that customers came to the event after having a brief respite in January and February.

“The market works on the principle of celebrating results of ‘labours of love’: dedicated, passionate food producers who work tirelessly to produce great food and sell at one of the finest food markets in Yorkshire .”

The next monthly food market will be held on Saturday, April 11.
