RICHARD PASCOE sous chef at The Feversham Arms Hotel, in Helmsley, has been shortlisted as one of the 18 regional finalists for the Roux Scholarship, one of the world’s most prestigious culinary competitions.

He will compete in one of two regional finals taking place in Birmingham tomorrow (Thursday).

This is the second time he has been successful in securing a place in the high-profile competition, after gaining a runner-up place in the final last year.

Richard grew up in Australia and before moving to the UK, had been ranked in a number of competitions, including a gold medal from the IKA Culinary Olympics, 15th in the Bocuse D’or World Final, and first at the Bocuse D’or Australian National Selection.

Richard said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for the second year in a row.

“I love taking part in competitions as I feel that they help to polish up your kitchen work, better your organisational skills, broaden your knowledge and bring new ideas to the table.

“I’m really excited for the next phase of the competition and hopefully I can make it to the finals.”

Charles Merchie, general manager at The Feversham Arms Hotel, said: “We are very proud of Richard and his achievement.

“We pride ourselves in the high standard of staff at our hotel and Richard’s achievement in this competition is testament to this.

“We wish him the best of luck.”
