ORGANISERS of a country market are appealing for bakers in a bid to restart the weekly event.

Pickering Country Market celebrated its 30th anniversary last year but was forced to close due to financial reasons.

Secretary Judy Taylor said they now hoped to hold the market again but were in desperate need of more people to bake.

“A number of our previous bakers have since retired or gone on to do other things,” she said.

“We need people to make savoury and sweet items including cakes and cookies so the market can get up and running again.”

Mrs Taylor said the market, which was held every Thursday morning at the WRVS centre in Pickering, closed last October.

As well as homemade produce it sold a variety of local arts and crafts.

“Ever since it closed I have been constantly asked by local people when it would reopen,” Mrs Taylor said.

“The market was always really popular so hopefully we can get enough people to help set it up again.”

Anyone who is interested in baking must have a Level Two Hygiene Certificate which can be completed online.
