AS part of the on-going success of Malton Monthly Food Market, the organisers are now featuring a stallholder of the month – a focus on one of the many food or drink producers who work tirelessly to promote Yorkshire produce and in some cases Made in Malton products.

Ryedale Vineyards was the stall-holder in focus for September. Currently Britain’s most northerly commercial vineyard, it is located near Westow and is a regular attendee of Malton Monthly Food Market.

Stuart Smith, of Ryedale Vineyards, said: “We have our biggest range ever this year – eight still wines and four sparkling ones.

“We believe our Strickland Estate Sparkling Wine is the first-ever to be fermented in the Champagne method using Champagne grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, here in Yorkshire.

“We have recently been awarded two silver medals, three bronze medals and two highly-commended awards in the Mercian Vineyard Association Competition.

“Earlier this year, we won a silver medal for our Shepherd’s Delight Rose Wine and a bronze medal for our Wolds View White Wine at the UKVA English and Welsh Wine of the Year awards.

“Last year we also had a record crop and this year looks to be just as good.”

This month, the limelight fell on the Yorkshire-based company, The Tea Experience, which sells a delightful array of tea products.

Ann Davis, of The Tea Experience, said: “Our tea blooms are made in China by hand a using silver needle whole tea leaves and dried flowers. Each bloom takes about 10 minutes to construct by a skilled artisan.

“The tea blooms are designed as special occasion or celebration tea as they have a sense of theatre. The little teapot is filled with hot water and the tea bloom is then gently dropped into hot water.

“The bloom slowly sinks to the bottom of the teapot and the tea leaves gradually furl to reveal the blossoms inside. All this time the tea is brewing and produces a very light and delicate green tea that has a very gentle back note of the flowers.”

The next Malton Monthly Food Market is on Saturday, November 8.
