DETAILS have been released to whet the appetite of foodies ahead of the annual York Food Festival.

This year’s festival runs from September 19 to September 28 with highlights including a taste trail around the city centre, hands-on cookery lessons and a 10-day market in St Sampson’s square.

Among the events will be the chance to dine with the nuns at the Bar Convent on September 19, lessons on how to make the perfect bread at the Mansion House on September 26 and a cookery demonstration by chef and forager Steph Moon in St Sampson’s Square on September 24.

Lynn Allington, of York Food Festival, said that as well as an impressive selection of food-related events, this year “sees a particularly strong drinks programme”. She said: “On 26th and 27th the Three Wine Men, Olly Smith, Oz Clarke and Tim Atkin, will host a major wine tasting of 35 producers and retailers in the grounds of the Minster.

“The CAMRA Beer and Cider Festival on the Knavesmire runs alongside the festival until September 20. “The festival also offers a range of opportunities to learn from local experts like Karen Hardwick, Peter McKenna and Gareth Morgan, as well as the chance to join New World Winemakers from six separate estates for dinner in Melton’s Too. “Rounding off this extensive programme are a dinner at the Treasurer’s House with Brown Brothers, a lunch at the Mansion House with the Jurade of St Emilion and wine events at the Cedar Court Grand and Hotel du Vin.”

Tickets for the events at this year’s York Food Festival are now on sale. Entrance to the demonstrations, some workshops and the market, is free. For information, go to yorkfoodfestival.com
