BAKING fans are invited to dig out their wooden spoons and take part in the Great Harome Bake Off next Wednesday.

The event is being held on St George's Day, April 23, to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society as part of its annual Cake Break fundraiser.

Categories include the ultimate chocolate cake, an afternoon tea and for children, cupcakes or a St George's Day themed cake.

Emma Dodsworth, who organising the event with Andrew Pern, from The Star Inn, said the charity was very close to her heart as her late mother, Pat had MS.

"This was the fourth event that we have held in the village and this time we have moved it from a Sunday to a weekday evening to make it more family-friendly," she added.

"We hope people will come along and enjoy the entertainment and refreshments and we have given it a patriotic theme for St George's Day including a children's fancy dress competition."

The cakes will by judged by Andrew and Auntie Anne from Castlegate Bakery in Helmsley.

"We have a Yorkshire Yurt to hold the event in and Ian Smithson will be bringing swingboats while Adam Collier will be playing a fairground organ," Emma said.

"We usually raise around £1,000 and are hoping to do something similar this year as it is a good boost to the MS Society."

The Great Harome Bake Off takes place at Cross House Lodge, next to The Star Inn, 5 - 8pm.

All cakes must be registered between 4.30 and 5.30pm for judging and there is a £5 entry fee.
