ORGANISERS of the first Malton Beertown have said 'cheers' to a successful event.

The festival, held in the Milton Rooms was hosted by the town’s two newest breweries, Brass Castle and Bad Seed, who were on hand across the weekend to talk to visitors about the range of keg and cask beers on offer.

Phil Saltonstall, from Brass Castle Breweries in Yorkersgate, said Beertown had been extremely well received and a great deal of fun.

"We've had some excellent feedback and served over 5,000 measures of beer and cider over the two days, to around 700 visitors," he added.

"The atmosphere in the Milton Rooms was fantastic and the whole event passed without a hitch."

Phil said the overwhelming success of Beertown could be put down to the sheer variety that they injected into the event.

"The beer range was truly stunning and showcased ales from across the UK - as well as Malton's own," he added.

" Music ranged from a dedicated DJ throughout, to folk music from The Shiznitz, raucous country from The Lumberjack Cowboy Heartbreak Trucking Company, indie hits from The Patron Saints and the brass of the marvellous Swinton & District Excelsior Band. "

Phil said: "Some have even remarked on social media that it was the first beer festival that they had been to where people were dancing around the bar. Meanwhile, we had excellent food available from Hayloft Foods, Malton Relish and The Haxby Baker. If that wasn't enough - a magician wowed those folks who relaxed in the chill-out room with some close-up magic.

Phil added that it had been such a success it looked like Beertown would be back again next year,

" We'd like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers who staffed the doors and the bar, and without whom the event would not have been possible."
