Science fiction author, Ruth Wheeler, meets fans in York
8:58am Saturday 18th August 2012 in Books
Acclaimed science-fiction author Ruth Wheeler will be eschewing the normal bookstore venue for writers when she signs copies of her popular novels today.
The science fiction author will be meeting her fans at York’s Hull Road Service Station.
The petrol station has a sci-fi theme and is the ideal backdrop for this afternoon’s event. Innerspace Stations owner Graham Kennedy said: “Ruth’s books are set at an inter-galactic service station, so it’s an obvious tie-in, and we are proud to have her here signing her books.”
Wheeler’s two novels have been described by reviewers as reminiscent of Douglas Adams’s Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy series. Hull Road Service Station has been cheering motorists for many years with its sci-fi theme and its iconic residents. Despite the threat of Doctor Who’s Tardis being parked next to the car wash, two Daleks and a Cyberman guard the forecourt from the roof, and a Star Wars Stormtrooper keeps a watchful eye on the inside of the shop. This weekend also marks the arrival of a new, speciallymade blue Dalek, who will be unveiled at the book signing.
