The Yorkshire Quiz Book by Andrew Gallon (Jake Island Publishers, £8)

At the Little Apple Bookshop we love a good quiz, be it at the pub, on TV or in book form. So we had had a lot of fun this week testing out our book of the week. The Yorkshire Quiz Book has lots of different categories to choose from, including York, Literary Yorkshire, Teasers and Yorky or Porky, basically true or false the York version! There are even picture rounds where you can name the castle, stately home or waterfall: you get one clue for each. One of the things I like about the quiz is that it fills in some interesting gaps in my Yorkshire knowledge. Plus it made me eager to go and seek out some of the amazing record-breaking sights, like the highest cliff and the waterfall with the longest single above-ground drop, or sample some traditional Yorkshire food and drink, like whiskey from the Sutton on the Forest distillery (who knew about that?) or a bit of Moorland Tomme cheese. It made me marvel at what a vast and productive county ours is and how proud we should be of all its wonders. This attractive pink quiz book features a full scoring system (596 points up for grabs) and thankfully, answers at the back too. I will leave you with a puzzler: where am I going if I am going to the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire?
