NETHER Poppleton ceramicist Jill Moger will be on hand at her exhibition at The Blake Gallery, 45, The Village, Haxby on Saturday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm to sign copies of her new book, Reptile To Reef.

Jill's exhibition of ceramic sculptures of reptiles, marine life and insects will run until November 29 at Michael Hourston's relocated gallery, where the book by the Society of Wildlife Artists and the Society of Women Artists member is on sale at £38.

Its publication has prompted the esteemed art critic Anthony J Lester to write in the foreword: "For some time now, I have been surprised that no publisher has had the astuteness to publish a book on Moger’s astonishing sculptures. I am, therefore euphoric that Langford Press had the fortitude to produce this handsome volume on undoubtedly one of the most gifted of all contemporary animal sculptors. I applaud the book and bow to Moger’s extraordinary talent."

Jill, who has been a sculptor for 30 years, says: "I've included several of my favourite subjects in this exhibition, many of them endangered species. Reptiles are still relatively misunderstood and under-represented in art but I hope that depicting them as sculpture will raise awareness of their plight in the wild and even help to encourage people to support the conservation of some of these beautiful creatures."

The exhibition shares its title with the book, and as the title indicates, both highlight not only reptilian life but also the plight of coral reefs around the world.
