THE polar regions, north and south have always held a fascination for men.

There was, and still is, challenge in their remoteness, their harsh situations that also exude an attractive beauty, and what might they tell us of conditions that influence the climate of our planet, and what unknown things remain to be discovered.

There is a wealth of literature about the polar regions but there is always room for more.

It is good to have a small offering like this one which can stir the interest and offer a frame work on which the reader can develop his own exploration of the many works that can lead him on a wonderful journey to areas that he may never reach but can revel in through books.

Once that interest has been stirred the polar regions will never loose their grip; they will never let you go.

It is a wonderful experience
