Fairy tales with a Yorkshire twist

THE ‘‘Yorkshire Bard’’, Barnsley poet Ian McMillan, will be in York on Monday to sign copies of his new book ‘‘Daft Yorkshire Fairy Tales’’.

The book, published by Dalesman at £7.99, gives McMillan’s take on a host of classic fairy tales – including a version of Jack and the Beanstalk in which, when Jack plants his magic beans, “of course, nothing happens. This is Yorkshire, after all”.

The poet will be at W H Smith in Coney Street from 2pm on Monday.
