As part of the centenary of the First World War, Helmsley library is appealing for people to come forward to share information and stories about their own family during the First World War.

Stories, pictures letters and other items of interest will be used to build up a community resource about the war and how it affected the lives of people in the area.

A team of experts will be available from local family history groups and museums to help people understand what they have and how to find out more.

Library staff will also be on hand to demonstrate how to get the best use out online library resources like Ancestry and Find My Past when searching for information about the First World War and the area.

The drop in session is taking place at Helmsley library on Saturday, from 10am to noon.
