Malton band Hold That Thought were kind enough to answer a few questions to give everyone an idea of what they are all about.

So Jaz Minn, Dean Lerch, Sam Legend and Will Ease, tell The Vibe what you know.

Can you tell us the story of how hold that though became a band?

Yeah, one day we came together just to have a jam and play a few covers that we all liked, like Somebody Told Me by The Killers, and we really enjoyed it, so we decided to do it again and progressed from there.

Did any bands in the area particular inspire you to get into a band?

Well Jaz (bass) and Dean (drums) were part of a local band called Bright Young Things who sadly went their separate ways earlier in 2008, so we suppose Bright Young Things are one of our influences. There were loads of great local bands like we used to go and watch, like AKP, My Friend Juliet, and Hedcage, they all had a massive influence on us.

For people who haven’t heard Hold That Thought before, what sort of thing can they expect from your music?

We’re a bit of everything really. We’re a rock-pop-guitar-keys based band with an eclectic line up of musical prowess.

What are your influences as a band?

Will: My main influence is Matt Bellamy who is front man in Muse and Brandon Flowers of The Killers.

Jaz: My biggest influence is Dean, he’s just a great guy. Sam, our guitarist is a big influence as well, not only because he’s really tall, but I just really respect him... Will, not so much! But seriously the Muse bassist, Chris Wolstenholme is a hero of mine.

Sam: I reckon mine are Eric Clapton, Tom Morello and Jimmy Hendrix, and Zeb Haynes from My Friend Juliet.

Dean: My influences are Dan le sac vs scrubious pip and Travis Barker (Blink 182, +44).

What different qualities do the different band members bring to the band?

Four things: Ecstasy, plagiarism, bigamy and wit, although not always at the say time!

Where would you like to be as a band in a year from now, what would you like to have achieved?

Well we have been to a recording studio for a couple of days and that was amazing, so we would like to record some more tunes by next year as well as more recognition in the area. Then, a sell-out Wembley stadium gig would be nice!

Why should people check you out?

Because we’re reasonably different from the norm and yet generic enough to be catchy, and we drink lots of energy drinks.
