Who is in Trixy Trix and The Deadbeats and what does everyone play?

Alf Whyte: Well, we have a lot of people who input into Trixy Trix but the core members at the moment are myself, Alf Whyte, I play bass and hopefully soon percussion.

Dillon Lyska plays rhythm guitar, lead vocals, and keys.

Sydney Oliver plays lead guitar and second vocals. Wozz plays drums and rhythm guitar.

The Ally Kat put images to our songs, sort of VJing, as well as playing backing drums. Finally, Melbert plays the violin. We’re also in talks with four other musicians who will hopefully get involved soon.

You have a lot of members that are based around the country, how do you make the band work?

We like to do things differently so we do a lot of writing individually, then we email each other the tracks and layer them. By time we all meet up, we generally know the songs and are ready for the stage within a couple of practices.

Do you find it helpful to have such an eclectic mix of musicians, or does it hinder the writing process, having so many different ideas and influences?

It’s great really. The more ideas that we can get, the more fun we have.

It’s amazing working with musicians who have such a diverse range of tastes and influences.

All of the different sounds and variations have allowed us to develop our own sound, which we think is quite distinctive. We want people to hear a song and know that it’s Trixy Trix because it doesn’t sound like anything else out there.

What would you say your musical influences as a band are?

Well, Melbert has a classical background, but is really in R’n’B and Latin Funk.

I’d say everyone in Trixy Trix and The Deadbeats has as diverse a taste in music as Melbert, so that’s a lot of different styles that are hopefully all inputting into our final sound.

I’d say if you were to label us though, we’d fit into a sort of funk rock, alternative, jazzy zing!

Your sound is pretty quirky and distinctive. Do you try and create this sound in a Trixy Trix song or does it just turn out that way?

The core writing of the band comes from Dillon Lyska and Sydney Oliver, who both have quite diverse tastes. The job for the rest of us it to keep them grounded, to stick to a rhythm and then hopefully to compliment their creativity with some cheeky bass-lines and drumbeats.

What are your goals as a band for the following year?

We want to get another recording down, go on a tour and play a few festivals. We’ve got loads of private shows this summer and then after that we’ll be out on the road. Hopefully we’ll see everyone at a show soon!
