Tom Warrington lost his life a couple of weeks ago in a car crash, at the age of 18. I would like to add a few words about Tom that I know hundreds have already shared over the last few of weeks.

Tom was one of those familiar faces at gigs in Ryedale and even if you didn’t know him personally you’d definitely recognise him. I remember being on stage once playing a set with my band and watching him dive into a pit at Suddaby’s. Tom was subsequently flattened by a couple of big guys.

At this point some may have sulked off, holding their various wounds, but that wasn’t really Tom’s way. Tom dived back up, took a rather obvious run up and launched himself straight back in, bouncing off anyone and everyone within a 10-meter radius – yep, he was pretty mental.

Whether it was Tom’s brightly-coloured boxers on display or him turning up to a gig with a rucksack and asking you to look after it for him at the door, whether it was his complete disregard for his own welfare in the moshpits, or simply his general banter, Tom was one of those people that gave the crowds of the scene life and I, along with a lot of other people, will remember him for that.
