PICKERING residents are being urged to say whether they think the new dispersal orders to combat troublesome gangs in the market town have been a success.

Sgt Anna Rees, who has taken over the operation of the order which was introduced by Sgt Cliff Edens, said: "We want to know whether the public believes the orders are working since they started in mid April."

They are due to run for six months, she added, covering: The Ropery.

The order includes all walkways and driveways leading from the roads, said Sgt Rees.

"My perception is having spoken to people in such places as the tourist information centre, library and the Co-op supermarket is that the orders have been successful, especially in The Ropery which was one of the biggest problem areas," she added.

"People say the order is working and that there are no longer the gangs of youths drinking in the area."

Six anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs) have now been issued in Ryedale. "They seem to be working well. Those who have been given them are sticking to the conditions of the orders and do not seem to be causing any further trouble," said Sgt Rees.
