FRIENDS, family and volunteers have helped transform a special teenager’s garden in just two days.

An appeal was made in last week’s Gazette for people to create a colourful view for Laura Robertson-Tierney to enjoy from her bedroom window.

The 18-year old, who lives in Malton, has three aggressive brain tumours and her condition is terminal.

Working with Laura, who is also known as Louby, and her mum Emma, the charity Brain Tumour Research and Support Across Yorkshire arranged for their garden to be overhauled.

Tina Boden, from the charity and Ellie’s Fund, said they had received amazing support and donations.

“John Stobart from Unreal Gardens in Grimsby did the design and we had turf donated by Fineland Turf of Sherburn, while MKM, Howarth Timber and Yates Garden Centre in Malton and the Steam and Moorland Centre in Pickering provided everything we needed at cost or a discount.”

Tina said there had been more work to do than expected, but many people had stayed all Saturday and then returned on Sunday to help complete the garden.

“We got about two thirds done but it looks fantastic. The lawn is down and there is a patio area and flower pots along with a garden gnome called Wilf,” she said.

“It was all hands to the deck but everyone has done such a great job and we would like to thank all those who helped for their support.”

Emma said she would like to thank the following people for their help: Neil Sample, Phil Reid, Jaden Thorpe, Paul Thorpe, Dave Reid, Carl Bumby, Richard Cook, Tina Boden, Andy Scaife, Carol Robertson, Neal Boden, Charlie, Frank and Sally Edwards, Kathy Oliver, John Draper and his wife, David Rhodes, John, Tanya and Beechwood Skip Hire.

“I cannot believe the difference a week can make,” she said.

“There are times in everyone's lives where a thoughtful gesture, however small, makes the world of difference. For us, now we face the darkest of times, we have been truly amazed by the huge amount of support and generosity from so many in our community.

“I cannot even begin to put into words the impact for Lou.”
