AN appeal has been made to help transform a garden into a colourful special view.

Laura Robertson-Tierney and her mum Emma recently moved to a bungalow in Malton and now Brain Tumour Research & Support across Yorkshire is working to provide Laura, who is also known as Louby, with a pretty view from her window.

Fundraiser and charity development manager Carol Robertson said: “Emma has some people coming in to sort the garden on Saturday, but we are looking for people who could provide additional materials or know where we can buy them at cost.

“The hope is to create a paved area on which to put their table and chairs and Emma would also like to create a raised flowerbed across the back so that when Lou looks out of her bedroom window she can see the paved area and flowers to brighten up the day.”

Carol said Laura and Emma need fencing, paving stones or flags, turf, gravel and small stones of any colour or type and decorative tubs.

“We are aiming to get the structural stuff done this week and then get the pretty things in the following week,” she said.

Laura was diagnosed with two aggressive brain tumours last April.

Despite undergoing months of intensive treatment, Laura has now been told that she has a third tumour and her condition is terminal.

A special celebration was held last week to mark her 18th birthday and on Valentine’s Day, Laura became engaged to her long-term boyfriend Jaden Thorpe.

Emma said: “Everyone is delighted for them. Jaden is such a special person and we all think the world of him. He proposed at The Lodge in Malton and we would like to thank everyone there for making it such a wonderful evening for them both.”

A further fundraising event for Louby’s Lifeline, set up by Laura to raise funds for brain tumour research, takes place this Friday at the Kings Head in Malton.

Breakfast will be available followed by a coffee morning from 8.30am through to the evening when Starbox Band will appear at 9pm. Raffle tickets are also on sale.

Little Gems theatre group, based at Norton College, helped boost the appeal, which now stands at more than £7,000, by raising £1,100 at their annual panto.
